The word anatomy comes from the Greek anatomḗ, meaning “dissection” or “cutting up”: separating the body into parts in order to understand its structure. This analytical perspective is essential to the study of anatomy and biomechanics. Yoga, however, invites us to bring those parts back into relationship and experience the body as an integrated whole.
This theoretical and experiential masterclass explores functional anatomy and biomechanics through the lens of Yoga practice. We will examine how yoga practice can affect the joints, muscles, fascia, skeletal structure, organs and glands. The importance of alignment, stability and mobility. By separating to understand, we can then integrate to experience, developing a more intelligent, functional and individualized practice.
