The Advanced Studies in Hatha Yoga program at Ananda Ashram is designed for certified yoga teachers who wish to deepen their practice and refine their teaching within a living tradition of Yoga and Vedanta.

Advanced Hatha Yoga

Refine your understanding of posture, breath, and energetic integration.

Topics include:
  • advanced posture analysis and alignment
  • intelligent sequencing methods
  • pranayama and breath ratio practices
  • subtle body theory (koshas and prana vayus)
  • meditation leadership

Teaching Methodology

Strengthen your ability to guide students with clarity and confidence.

Areas of focus include:
  • advanced cueing and class structure
  • teacher presence and pacing
  • group dynamics and classroom awareness
  • professional boundaries and ethics
  • integrating philosophy into teaching

Anatomy & Physiology

Develop practical anatomical understanding for safe and effective instruction.

Topics include:
  • functional biomechanics of spine, hips, and shoulders
  • breath mechanics and diaphragm function
  • nervous system regulation
  • injury prevention and contraindications

Philosophy & Spiritual Foundations

Study the teachings that inform the practice.

Topics include:
  • selected teachings from the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali
  • themes from the Bhagavad Gita
  • core principles of Vedanta
  • ethical responsibility and the yamas and niyamas

Practicum

Students gain teaching experience through:

  • supervised teaching sessions
  • faculty mentorship and feedback
  • assisting senior teachers
  • final capstone teaching assessment

Program Structure

The training consists of six 50-hour modules delivered as immersive retreats or intensive study periods.

Total Program Hours: 300

  • 270 contact hours
  • 30 non-contact study hours

Graduates who hold a 200-hour certification may become eligible to register as RYT-500 through Yoga Alliance.
