In the scheme of Comparative Religion studies, this workshop will explore teachings of Jalal ad-Din Rumi regarding what it means to be Near to the Beloved (the Absolute). Since Rumi was a follower of Islam, emphasis will be on Islamic principles and spiritual practices meant to remove the veils covering the innate closeness with the Absolute, within the larger scope of realizing union with the Absolute. Attention will also be given to how these teachings compare with Yogic principles and spiritual practices that share the same purpose.
