10:30AM-12:30PM Pulse: Detecting Our Mental States of Balance & Imbalance
Determine your manas prakruti through the pulse and clinical observation. Manas means mind. Manas prakruti denotes the flow of consciousness, while manas vikruti reflects our present state of mind. Our mental constitution is influenced by the proper digestion of our thoughts, feelings and emotions. Dr. Lad will present methods to bring balance and support to manas vikruti.
2:30-4:30PM The Twenty Gunas (Qualities), the Three Doshas, the Bodily Tissues & Digestive Fire
Ayurveda teaches that there are twenty gunas or qualities which influence our physiology, psychology and behavior. The three doshas, Vata, Pitta and Kapha, are constantly seeking to balance these qualities and maintain homeostasis. They affect our physical and mental body, including agni (digestive fire) and all the dhatus (bodily tissues).

10:30AM-12:30PM Integrating Ayurveda with Modern Medicine
Ayurveda can be used as a complementary therapy to modern medicine. It goes beyond signs and symptoms to re-establish balance between the doshas (V, P, K), dhatus (tissues) and malas (urine, sweat, feces). Both systems utilize disease classifications and antagonistic therapies and remedies. Ayurveda looks at the individual as a whole and applies the laws of nature from a personalized viewpoint.
2:30-4:30PM Ayurvedic Remedies for Common Ailments
Children and adults suffer from colds, coughs, fevers, diarrhea, toothaches, headaches, flus and other common disorders. We will examine natural herbal applications and other remedial measures to alleviate dis-ease.
July 19, Thu
10:30AM-12:30PM Aging Gracefully
Ayurveda offers guidelines to help diminish the effects of aging on the three doshas. Using the wisdom of Ayurveda, we can preserve our natural lifespan, maintain a strong, healthy body and mind, get proper, restful sleep, sustain normal blood pressure, optimal cholesterol levels, healthy bones and a great memory.
2:30-4:30PM Facial Energy Points for Stress Management
There are over 25 facial marmani, vital energy points similar to acupressure points. They can be used to pacify mental stress, calm our thoughts and bring relief to emotional disturbances. Stimulating facial marmani also relieves pain and increases the tone of facial muscles.
July 20, Fri
10:30AM-12:30PM Gemstones & Crystals for Healing & Protection
Every gemstone or crystal has a subtle energy and an ability to draw in positive and negative vibrations. Each stone has a taste, a cooling or heating energy and even a post-digestive effect. Students will learn the effects of gems and crystals for self-healing and protection.
2:30-4:30PM Using the Five Senses as Therapy
The subtle elements or tanmatras of sound (shabda), touch (sparsha), form or color (rupa), taste (rasa) and smell (gandha) are major pathways for inner healing. Sound travels through space and affects our physiology and mind. With touch we transmit love through our hands. Colors and shapes give us visual impressions. The six tastes can balance our emotions and organs. Smell connects us with memories. There are specific healing processes to balance and support our well-being.
Part II - July 20-22, Fri eve - Sun:
July 20, Fri
8:30PM Inspirational Talk by Dr. Lad -- Open to the public.
July 21, Sat
10:30AM-12:30PM Healing the GI Tract with Ayurveda
The gastrointestinal tract or gut processes food from the moment it is taken into the mouth until it is either absorbed by the body or passed out as stool. The stomach and small and large intestines affect proper digestion and absorption of food and nutrients. Learn ways to keep the gut happy and healthy.
2:30-4:30PM The Role of Devotion in Daily Life
Living life with a personal deity (Ishta Devata) brings focus, stability, grounding and communion with something greater than ourselves. Developing this relationship leads to higher forms of consciousness and enlightenment.
July 22, Sun
10:30AM-12:30PM Balancing the Chakras & Awakening Kundalini
The seven main chakras (energy centers) help maintain communication between the body, mind and spirit. Blocked energy in any of the chakras manifests as stress on those organs related to that chakra. Chakra meditation brings balance and purity, allowing kundalini energy to flow.
2:30-4:30PM Ganesha Puja
Ganesha is known as the lord of wealth, knowledge and new beginnings and as the remover of obstacles. Dr. Lad will offer mantras, flowers, sweets, water, rice, milk, honey, yogurt, light and incense to Lord Ganesha. This loving, devotional practice helps to reignite our spiritual connection with the divine. It brings happiness, peace, purification and clarity as it removes negativity and creates positive vibrations.
