In times of outer conflict a powerful response can be to work on increasing our inner peace.
With this intent we will be starting an on-going Devī Māhātmyam chanting program.
This text is recommended for all challenging periods, both in our outer environments, and in our personal lives.
In the spirit that “It is better to light a candle than to curse the darkness” we will be offering up these verses in the spirit of individual and global healing.
In this text, divine energy in the form of the Goddess does battle with demonic forces. By chanting these verses we invoke this energy to deal with our inner demons and to deepen our access to meditation energy.
We will be doing call and response and then group chanting of verses for the first half hour. For those who would like to continue exploring the verses, with the goal of advancing their understanding of Sanskrit grammar, we will do some translation work for the 2nd half hour. All are welcome to come for either or both halves. We will be meeting most Sundays on an ongoing basis.
Ananda Ashram is a yoga and meditation retreat dedicated to inner transformation through meditative understanding. Nestled in the foothills of the Catskill Mountains, it offers a peaceful sanctuary for reflection, nature, and contemplative practice.
