Arjun Verma offers a weekend online immersion workshop in the melodious sounds of North Indian Classical Music. Learn fundamentals as well as deeper levels of raga (melodic forms), tala (rhythm cycles), rhythmic phrasing, vocal and instrumental styles of music, training methods, musicality, performance aesthetics and universal concepts of music, all through the lens of classical repertoire. Focus will be on practical playing as well as interactive discussion with students. All instruments and levels welcome, as long as students have basic playing ability.
Students will have access to recordings of the sessions following the workshop.
Classes will be conducted online on Zoom platform.
Arjun Verma, sitarist, began performing at the age of seven. He is a student of his father Acharya Roop Verma and of Maestro Ali Akbar Khan, with whom he studied for eight years. Arjun has performed in the U.S., Europe and India, including at the United Nations in Geneva, Prague Castle in the Czech Republic and the Fillmore in San Francisco. He teaches Sitar and North Indian classical music at the Ali Akbar College of Music in California and at the East-West School of Music at Ananda Ashram. Visit his website for more information.
