The Prakriti/Vikriti Paradigm: Detecting Your Unique Genetic Code

Prakriti and vikriti are the foundation of Ayurvedic science and the path of individual healing. Dr. Lad will explain the different types of prakriti which determine our physical and psychological constitution, and help students to detect and understand their original prakriti as well as the present altered state of the dosha, or vikriti.

July 20, Tue 2:00-4:00PM
Psychology of the Doshas

The three doshas are also known as vata (air), pitta (fire) and kapha (water & earth). When vata is out of balance one feels nervous, fearful and anxious. Due to pitta imbalance, one becomes judgmental, aggressive and competitive. Disturbed kapha may be responsible for feelings of attachment and possessiveness leading to depression. Learn how the doshas interplay in daily life, through the mind and through our relationships.

July 21, Wed 10:30AM-12:30PM & 2:00-4:00PM
Balancing Dhatu & Upadhatu through the Ayurvedic Wisdom of Herbs

A cell is the functional unit of the body. Similar cells join together to create a tissue. Dhatu is tissue, the connecting and cementing material of the body. Ayurveda teaches that damaged tissue can be rejuvenated. Dr. Lad will speak on ten of the major herbs responsible for nourishing tissue strength and connectivity: shatavari, aloe vera (kumari), manjistha, ashvagandha, bala, gugglu, brahmi, atmagupta, ashoka and vidhari.

July 22, Thu 10:30AM-12:30PM
Domestic Panchakarma

Panchakarma is a process of detoxification and elimination of impurities from the system, under the guidance and supervision of Ayurvedic practitioners. Due to the nature of our hectic lives, there may not always be time for this formal type of panchakarma. Dr. Lad will show how the same healing effects may be achieved simply and practically at home.

July 22, Thu 2:00-4:00PM
Dinacharya: Finding Balance in Daily Routine

Ayurvedic science is grounded in a deep knowledge of the rhythms and cycles of nature. Dinacharya, a specific daily routine, is absolutely necessary to bring about radical changes in body, mind and consciousness. It balances our biological clock, aids digestion and generates self-esteem, discipline, happiness and longevity.

July 23, Fri 10:30AM-12:30PM
Agni: The Metabolic Fire of Life

Agni (fire) is responsible for digestion, absorption, assimilation and transformation of food into consciousness. Agni is also part of the immune system as it destroys harmful organisms and toxins. Dr Lad will explain how to assess the type and quality of your agni so that you can begin to eat and live in total health.

July 23, Fri 2:00-4:00PM
Purification of Mental Toxins

Thoughts are powerful and can bring changes in DNA. This highlights the importance of positive thinking, which is not new to Vedic and Yogic philosophy. The Ayurvedic art of healing offers a simple and practical breathing technique, combined with mudras or finger positions, to remove mental impurities and establish clarity in our daily living.

Part II - July 23-25, Fri eve.-Sun

July 23, Fri 8:30PM
Talk: The Spiritual Journey of Divine Mother Kundalini

According to ancient Vedic science, every individual has a field of electrical energy lying dormant at the base of the spine. When that dormant energy is awakened due to the grace of Divine Mother Kundalini, an ignorant person becomes wise and attains to godhood.

July 24, Sat 10:30AM-12:30PM
Ayurvedic Concept of Food and Diet

Each food has its own nature and quality. Some foods are light, some heavy, some are heating and others cooling. Ayurveda teaches that food once eaten is divided into three parts. The major part becomes body, the subtle portion becomes the mind and the third becomes waste. Dr. Lad will elaborate on the Ayurvedic science of diet.

July 24, Sat 2:00-4:00PM
Balancing the Chakras to Unfold Your Inner Bliss

Every chakra or energy center is a reservoir of consciousness and is connected to the physical organs and bodily systems as well as to our emotions. When a chakra is blocked, a person may have pain in the associated organ. Dr. Lad will explain the chakras as they relate to Ayurvedic diagnosis and healing and will share special chakra flow meditations.

July 25, Sun 10:30AM-12:30PM
Sama-Buddhi: Living in Moment-to-Moment Awareness

God is all around you and is coming to meet you in the form of the various happenings of your life. Whatever happens, Ayurveda teaches us to live that happening fully, without “doership”. The doer is ego, and you are not the ego. Dr. Lad will guide students in meditations to increase awareness, including the double arrow meditation and the mirror meditation.

July 25, Sun 2:00-4:00PM
Bhakti: The Path of Divine Love

As our final class falls on the sacred day of Guru Purnima, there will be a special offering of Bhajan and Kirtan with Dr. Lad and friends. A celebration of the life divine, with chanting for inner joy and world peace, in honor of the Guru - the inner guiding light.
