Welcoming our new children's program at Ananda Ashram! A day of art, yoga, music, gardening, Sanskrit and other exciting activities at the Ashram, hosted by a group of inspired mothers.

This recurring art and education program aims to expose kids to the principles and values of yoga, upon which Ananda Ashram was founded. Our focus is on self-awareness, self-expression and mindfulness. The program includes various aspects of yogic lifestyle: music, art, dance, yama/niyama (principles of living), karma yoga (selfless service), care for the body and mind (hatha yoga, pranayama and meditation), and simple introduction to yoga philosophy (Sanskrit language and chanting of verses).

A single theme will be chosen to guide the day’s events, with various Ashram teachers leading sessions related to the theme. For June 15th, the theme is the verse: Sarve bhavantu sukhinah (May all beings be happy).

With the variety of group activities, we can accommodate a broad age range of children. Adults may stay with their child for all or part of the kids’ program. This program will end at 3:00 PM, followed by pool time 3:00 -5:00 PM (adult supervision required). Please dress appropriately if rainy weather is expected. Outdoor activities will continue as planned.

This recurring program is organized by a committee of four women, all of whom are mothers (including one grandmother) and long-time members of the Ananda Ashram community. Tara Federman has a master's in education, with special interest in creative arts education, and experience with children with autism. She is also a Sanskrit, hatha yoga and meditation teacher. Gabrielle Washburn has a master's in nutrition, is a registered dietician and a certified hatha yoga teacher. Lila Ksenia is a meditation and movement teacher at Ananda Ashram with a BA in psychology and mathematics. Sarah Mulukutla is a neurologist and meditation instructor who uses yoga and meditation in her treatment of neurological diseases. Activities are additionally taught by various Ashram teachers, whose bios can be found on the Ananda Ashram Biographies page.
