Rukmani Jayanthi Venkataramani was born in Madras, India, where she had her formal Bharata Natyam training under the late Sri Venkatachalapathy. After 12 years of study under her teacher she had her Arangetram (graduation) in 1986. She has performed in India at the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan & Nungambakkam Cultural Center. Since 2002, Rukmani has been continuing her studies at Dakshina Palli, Inc., under Jaan R. Freeman and is a senior student of the School.
