The Yoga Society of New York Celebrates 50th Anniversary
The year 2008 marks the 50th Anniversary of the Yoga Society of New York, Inc., which was established as a nonprofit spiritual-educational organization on July 16, 1958 in New York City. The force and inspiration behind the Yoga Society was Ramamurti S. Mishra, M.D., also known as Shri Brahmananda Sarasvati.
Fifty years later, Ananda Ashram in Monroe, NY has become the permanent location and main teaching center of the Yoga Society of New York, continuing to work for the same purposes originally inspired by the Founder:
The "union and re-integration of the individual consciousness with the cosmic consciousness" through "Yoga, which is a system of physical, mental and spiritual training."
The Society has grown to include over 120 life members.
At Ananda Ashram, the entire year 2008 will be dedicated to honor the founding of the Yoga Society of New York. A very special 50th Anniversary Celebration is planned for the weekend of July 18-20, coinciding with the celebration of Guru Purnima, the "Day of the Guru," which this year falls on July 18.
The weekend program will include a Sitar concert on Friday and our annual dance-drama scenes from the Ramayana on Saturday.
All members and friends, old and new, are cordially invited to attend.
