Nashid states: "I was sent to perfect adab" is a saying of the Prophet Muhammad (p.b.u.h.). Adab is an Arabic term that can be translated as moral character and behavior. Islam, along with other religious and spiritual traditions, regards this as essential to living a spiritual life. This interactive workshop will explore what adab means in practical, everyday living. It will also incorporate selections from the Qur’aan, the Hadiths (sayings by and about the Prophet Muhammad), and stories from the Islamic lore to serve this purpose. In the context of Comparative Religion studies, emphasis will be on showing how elements of Islamic adab are reflected in other religious and spiritual traditions.
